The “Friends of Flagler Beach” is a program established to help those residents living alone, who may be elderly, handicapped, or otherwise isolated from daily contact with relatives or neighbors. The program requires that the participant have daily contact with the Flagler Beach Police Department. Failure to do so will result in the Police Department calling or sending an Officer to the person’s residence to check on his/her well-being. The program is designed to prevent a tragedy from occurring due to the participants need for Police or medical assistance and their inability to call for help.
Residents who meet the initial criteria of living alone, who are elderly, handicapped, or home bound, must complete the application form and return it to the Police Department.
The program participant must agree to call the Police Department Monday through Friday between 8:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. On Saturday and Sundays, the Police Department will be responsible for contacting the program participant. The Police Department will establish preferable times for contact on the weekends, as some participants may like to go shopping, to church, etc.
The participant must authorize an Officer to enter their residence with the use of a key if necessary, to ensure their well-being should there be no contact with the Police Department during the notification period.
