National Prescription Drug Take Back Day

“National Prescription Drug Take Back Day”

The front lobby of the Flagler Beach Police Department will be open on Saturday, April 28, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in support of “National Prescription Drug Take Back Day”.  The Police Department is located at 204 South Flagler Avenue, one (1) block south of SR100 on the east side of the Moody/SR100 Bridge.

This one (1) day event will provide residents and/or visitors with a no cost, anonymous collection of unwanted and/or expired medicines and this initiative is a collaboration between your local Police Department and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).   This one (1) day event supplements our ongoing efforts to safely collect and dispose of prescription medications with our Drug Collection Unit; which is located within the Police Department’s lobby.

Please help protect our children, families and environment by cleaning out your medicine cabinets and properly disposing of your unwanted and/or expired medicines.  Medicines in the home are a leading cause of accidental poisoning and flushed or trashed medicines can end up polluting our water sources.  Rates of prescription drug abuse are alarmingly high; over half of teens abusing medicines get them from a family member or friend, including the home medicine cabinet, and often without their knowledge.

Chief Doughney stated “Our Drug Collection Unit is available Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and we fully support National Prescription Drug Take Back Day.  Our Department will be open on Saturday, April 28th from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. to collect any unwanted prescription medications and work with DEA to dispose of them safely”.

Bike Week 2018

Spring Break 2018

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT

 March 7, 2018

“Flagler County Schools’ Spring Break 2018”

Spring Break 2018 for Flagler County School students begins Friday, March 9th, and runs through Sunday, March 18thThis year’s Spring Break will coincide with Daytona’s 77th Bike Week.  The Flagler Beach Police Department anticipates heavier than usual crowds at our Beach, on our roadways, and at our businesses during this busy week.

In an effort to provide a safe environment during the event for our residents and visitors, the Flagler Beach Police Department has requested, and will be receiving, additional Law Enforcement resources from the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office.

According to Chief Matt Doughney, “Last year these two (2) events coincided and the additional presence of uniformed Law Enforcement Officers on motorcycles, bicycles and ATV’s in the core area of the City worked extremely well. Bikers & Breakers had a great time.  Sheriff Staly has again graciously agreed to provide additional Deputies to assist our Officers with this year’s event and his willingness and commitment to our agency is greatly appreciated.”

The goal for the additional Law Enforcement presence is to once again provide a safe environment for residents, visitors and business owners alike.  Doughney continued. “Flagler Beach encourages visitors to enjoy all that our City has to offer, and asks that you respect our City Ordinances and State Laws”.  Doughney concluded, “Our City has many unique shops and restaurants, as well as an iconic Pier and six (6) miles of scenic beaches.  We simply ask that you respect our City, have a great time and act accordingly.”

Officers and Deputies will focus their combined efforts on the expeditious movement of traffic in and around the downtown core area, specifically State Routes 100 and A1A.  In addition to traffic management throughout the week, Law Enforcement Officers will be patrolling the downtown area and Beach on ATV’s, bicycles, motorcycles and foot patrol.  Law Enforcement’s areas of concern for the event are underage drinking, littering, illegal parking, and physical disturbances that tend to be caused by and/or associated with underage drinking or narcotics usage.

If you have any questions regarding this year’s Spring Break event, please feel free to contact Chief Doughney at (386) 517-2020.
